Four Serenades

Serenade No. 1
A conversation with my Dad

Notes: My Father has recently passed and this is a piece I composed for him, I tried to finish it before he died but was unable to. I improvised a kind of conversation between us. He was a passionate and sensitive man, he had dreams and was proud of his spanish ancestry. He loved the guitar and we would often spend time playing duets. Don’t play this too fast or too slow, just let your intuition guide you, let the notes ring out whenever you can and be careful with the rhythm throughout, this will help to bring out the intended flavor of this piece.

Serenade No. 2
Dancing in the Trees

Notes: I have these two large trees outside my window and one day I was watching the squirrels and birds playing and I got inspired to write this piece. I tried to imitate the birds singing and squirrels chasing eachother, so try to apply the marked accents, and nice even scale runs, a moderate tempo works best in my opinion.

Serenade No. 3
Irene’s Waltz

Notes: Irene Verdugo was my Grandmother (Technically my Great Aunt, but I always called her Grandma). She got me started on Guitar many years ago by waking me up in time to watch the televised guitar lessons by Frederick Noad. She bought me his workbook, and my first guitar. I learned basic note reading and guitar fundamentals from Frederick Noad’s program.

Serenade No. 4
Solace

Notes: I wrote this piece for a dear relative who was struggling with cancer. This piece is intended to be played calmly and with a sense of peace, whatever that means to you, just let your intuition guide you.

Nocturne

Notes: Nocturne means Night Song, so I tried to capture the feeling of going out for a walk at night.
